The Bible and Evolution: A Lethal Combination

Recently through a nationwide church-sponsored event, the secular media and enemies of the Gospel were given further opportunity to marginalize the authority of God’s word through Evolution Sunday.

This past February 11, more than 600 congregations across the United States participated in Evolution Sunday as a way to mesh evolutionary dogma with belief in the Bible. This date was chosen to coincide [as closely as possible] to Charles Darwin’s birthday (February 12).

Headlines such as “Reason, faith together for one Sunday,” [as if reason and faith were mutually exclusive] “Evolution Sunday links science and religion” and “Believers accepting evolution” bombarded readers the following Monday, and further confused society on the Bible’s position regarding origins.

Additionally, professing Christians are further confused and indoctrinated into believing the claims of the unproven theory of naturalistic evolution as opposed to God’s clear teaching.

Evolution Sunday is the brainchild of a dean at Indiana’s Butler College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, who began a campaign called the “Clergy Letter Project,” whereby members of clergy from a variety of denominations signed an online petition supporting the teaching of evolutionary science in an attempt to show how faith in the Bible and evolution are supposedly compatible. An excerpt from the letter states:

“We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests. To reject this truth or to treat it as ‘one theory among others’ is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children.”

Transmitting scientific ignorance to our children? Propagating an unproven theory that clearly has not stood the test of scrutiny is a large part of the problem with today’s culture, as well as those who attempt to blend the truths of the Bible with the ideas of fallible men. That is embracing scientific ignorance.

Charles Darwin popularized the theory of evolution in his landmark 1859 book, “On the Origin of the Human Species By Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.” Favored races? The Bible teaches that God has made all nations from one blood (Acts 17:26). There is no room for racism in God’s word, and to celebrate a man like Darwin and his heretical teachings from the pulpit is despicable.

Since its publication, the foundations of the Gospel of Jesus Christ have been shaken and faith in the Bible has whittled away. (Psalm 11:3) “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Well for one, the righteous, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, can stand up for the truth and not compromise the faith to the godless academia.

Evolutionary science states that the universe was created with a big bang between four and six billion years ago and the earth and everything in it is a product of random chance, breaking nearly every law of physical science, including the law of biogenesis and the second law of thermodynamics; the Bible, on the other hand, states that God created the earth and all living things in six days, approximately 6,000 years ago, according to Biblical timelines and genealogies.

As followers of Christ, who are we to believe? A liberal theologian or atheistic scientist who believes that God is so wasteful and incompetent that he would need billions and billions of years of death and destruction in order to create what we have today? Or, shall we believe Jesus Christ, who created Heaven and earth in six days like the Bible states? (Romans 3:4) “Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.”

Jesus Christ said in Mark 10:6, “But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.”

Who are we to believe? Was the beginning of creation, when Jesus Christ made them male and female? Like the Lord said? Or was it billions of years ago, when the first piece of pond scum miraculously came alive, found something to mate with and eventually became all of the beautiful varieties and species of things we see today?

It sounds like it takes more faith to believe in “From goo-to-you via the zoo” evolution, than it does to believe that Christ created everything approximately 6,000 years ago in six days time. No one has ever witnessed one type of animal changing into another, so the Genesis account where God created everything after its kind is consistent with empirical science and how only animals, plants and people can reproduce after their respective kinds.

Not to mention that the Bible clearly states death came through Adam’s sin (Romans 5:12) “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.”

There is absolutely no compatibility between the unproven theory of evolution and the never disproved Word of God. The Bible states death and sin came after Adam disobeyed God, bringing a curse on God’s once perfect creation.

Evolution teaches that death has been a part of the universe since the beginning of time – that life has come through an endless cycle of death and rebirth, death and rebirth, until finally by random chance everything we see today has come together in perfect working order.

Churches that participate in Evolution Sunday and compromise the truth, in actuality are teaching that God is a liar. He would have to be if He created mankind on top of billions of years of death and suffering and called it “good” and “very good” as in the book of Genesis.

The problem stems from unbelief. Many churches and professing Christians have been so indoctrinated and brainwashed into the unproven theory of evolution that they doubt many parts of the Bible. For instance, passages that are hard for our minds to fathom are instantly spiritualized. Once again, the Lord Jesus Christ said in both Matthew and Mark, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

When was the last time an evolutionist spoke a word and created a planet? Or even a lake?

Design speaks of a designer, not of random chance over a long period of time.

Speaking of evolutionists, the leading anthropologist Sir Arthur Keith summed it up spectacularly and truthfully when he said, “Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it only because the only alternative is special creation, and that is unthinkable.”

Men have been suppressing truth in righteousness since Cain killed Abel and there is no difference today. Fallible men, under the veil of so-called science, teach their godless theory and begin the indoctrination of children of all ages. (Romans 1:18-23)

To all of the churches participating in Evolution Sunday: you are compromisers of the truth and are doing God a disservice. Evolution and the Bible are not compatible and, as followers of Jesus Christ, the Bible must be the standard to what all other theories are held. If it does not fit with scripture, it must be discarded. The Bible has never been proven wrong. Never.

Compromising the truth to appease the evolutionary community is not consistent with the words of Christ and is not something that the people who name Christ’s name should do. The Bible is not against science. In fact, it is the most pro-science document ever written. There are many great organizations and websites that hold scripture as the ultimate authority and contend for the faith of Jesus Christ from the very first verse. Galatians 1:8,9 “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

Our job on earth is not to please men, but to please Christ. Denying His words and agreeing with God’s enemies, is not something a true follower of Christ should do or even consider. Galatians 1:10 “For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”
